Well first, Call me! I love love love to talk about dyslexia and I would also love to help!
Then read, listen, watch as much as you can about dyslexia and ADHD. I have plenty of suggestions to get you started.
Here are a couple of Books that have been extremely helpful in creating a baseline for understanding:
Overcoming Dyslexia by Sally Shaywitz
This book is extremely helpful in understanding what's happening in the brain of a dyslexic reader and has a ton of extremely helpful resources.
The Dyslexia Empowerment Plan written by Ben Foss
The book delivers what it says. It empowers, normalizes, and serves as a guide book for accessibility and accommodations, in the world and in education. It suggests at least 2 years of learning to read taught in an Orton Gillingham method. The best way to get this much needed method is through tutoring and one on one teaching.
Then, request accommodations for your child so that they can succeed at school. This can be easy or challenging based on the worldview of your child's teacher or school.
