Tutoring for the Dyslexic Reader
Online service.
Online tutoring has become increasingly in-demand. With tutoring online, my clients and I have more flexibility, lower costs, and less distraction. I have tutored online and in-person and I have found there to be no deficits in switching from in-person to online.
I tutor children with dyslexia, ADHD, and who struggle with reading and spelling. My students have trouble retaining their spelling words from one week to the next, and they can't spell when writing sentences or stories - not even those high-frequency words like because, friend, and does. My students can all read, yet they have great difficulty sounding out an unknown word - despite being taught phonics. The program I use is an Orton-Gillingham based program called the Barton Reading & Spelling System. With this program, I like to utilize games, laughter, and fun so my kiddos are engaged and ready to learn.

Many studies have shown that it takes a minimum of two hours of study every week to show progress. I offer two working hour-long tutoring sessions per week. A discount is available if you would like to do more than two hours a week. These sessions will include a DIBELS reading Oral Reading Fluency assessment once a week to measure progress.

I understand the mental and emotional stress these kids have gone through throughout their school years. My tutoring philosophy is to build confidence with the leadership principle that if my student reads or spells a word wrong it is only because I didn't say or direct these kids well enough. My goal is not only reading and spelling success, it is to equip each child with the tools they need to reach any goals or dreams they have.
